BELTON, Texas鈥擳he University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (麻豆视频) recently announced three outstanding chemistry students for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Shane Melick, a double major in chemistry and mathematics from Oro Valley, AZ, has been recognized as the American Institute of Chemists (AIC) awardee. This award recognizes leadership ability, character, scholastic achievement, and advancement potential in the chemical professions. It includes a one-year membership with benefits in the AIC. Melick is a member of the 麻豆视频 baseball team and presented his original research on 鈥淭he Chemistry of Baseballs鈥� at the 麻豆视频 Scholar鈥檚 Day in April.
The Outstanding Senior Chemistry Major Award was presented to Amber Dickey of Frisco. This award is based on high scholastic achievement in chemistry and service to the department. Dickey is active in the Chemistry Club Sigma Pi and serves as a student worker in the department. She presented original laboratory research on 鈥淎 Comparative Analysis of Chlorophyll Concentration in Spinach Samples Using Visible Spectroscopy鈥� at Scholar鈥檚 Day, where she received first prize in her division.
The Freshman Chemistry Achievement Award was presented to Landon J. Fortson, a chemistry major from Houston. This award is based on outstanding work in General Chemistry I and II. Fortson presented literature research on 鈥淗ave You Had Your Thiamine Today?鈥� at 麻豆视频 Scholar鈥檚 Day.
鈥淲e are proud of the achievements of these students,鈥� said chemistry professor Dr. Ruth Ann Murphy. 鈥淭hey are shining stars and are great examples for the hardworking and high-achieving 麻豆视频 chemistry students.鈥�
